COVID-19 reversed the progress made in eradicating extreme poverty, and pushed 90 million people into poverty. Prior to the pandemic, poverty reduction had slowed. Without intervention, sub-Saharan Africa could be the most affected, with 575 millions remaining impoverished in 2030. Global crisis is also posed by hunger and rising food prices.

Before the pandemic, education progress was slow. In four out of five countries, COVID-19 caused learning loss. 84 millions children could be out of school and 300,000,000 may lack basic skills by 2030 if we do nothing. Goal 4 is to provide free, inclusive education for all children in order to end poverty cycles and create sustainable societies.
